Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program

Recently, the federal government of Canada and provincial government of Nova Scotia have announced a new program called the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program, which will cover up to $30,000 of costs associated with switching from oil heating systems to heat pumps. There is up to $15,000 available from the federal government, with an additional $15,000 available from the provincial government to qualifying households. The program is designed to help low to median income households cover the costs of switching from oil to heat pumps in an effort to reduce emissions, as well as making the cost of heating their homes more affordable.

The program is only available to upgrade the oil heating system of a persons primary residence. The income restrictions are as follows:

1 person- $37,260

2 people- $77,050

3 people- $98,900

4 people- $120,750

5 or more people- $126,500

If your net income on your 2022 Notice of Assessment falls at or below the thresholds above, you could qualify for a significant amount of funding to help cover the costs of upgrades. In addition, to help with the accessibility of the program, funding can be provided prior to the work being completed, so homeowners are not faced with having to fund the project out of their own pocket first.
